How It Started
Soul Gurfers started in a small community. Christa McAneney was tired of boys thinking they are better surfers, that they owned the waves. We are hear to show that girls have just the rights to the waves as much as boys do. Everyone is different, yet we are all the same. We founded this group of gurfers to provide a place for girls to feel welcomed. Everyone should be stoked about surfing and should try it! It is a lifestyle. Our community is trying to grow larger, join us!
Its was on July 17, 2012 that this group was founded by Christa. This picture was taken when Christa was creating the website and ask her friend Gabby to join. Gabby and Christa are showing off the Soul Gurfers sign. We also have an Instagram, @soulgurfers, and a Facebook page. We found our two members from Jacksonville on Instagram. Morgan Ingram and Kristen Sandifer found us and sent us an email. Now they are proud to be called Soul Gurfers.
Our other members, like Amanda and Destiny DeLuca were found from being friends with Christa and Gabby. They surfed with them and were on the surf team for school with them. After some discussion they decided that they were on the team! Sadly Gabby didn't want to be a Soul Gurfer anymore. That's fine since Christa wanted to add new members, but didn't have enough room. Gabby will be missed, but for now we are still rocking! Destiny and Amanda have chosen soccer as a main sport now, but we wish them the best of luck! Now we are growing all over! From Hawaii to Florida! We hope to keep growing!
